It has happened. You will now find a piece of proprietary garbage in our home. My wife received an iPod Touch from her brother this Holiday season. Ok, so I exaggerate, we already possess a MacBook Pro (from a previous job) and some other devices, but an iPod Touch?
So I knew they would be a neat device. I used one at different times, and love the interface. Nice and simple, and quite intuitive. Even my girls can easily use the different apps. What frustrated me most, right out of the box, I needed iTunes to get it going. I did not mess around enough with it, but downloaded iTunes to the MacBook Pro to expedite the process. That frustrates me so much, to be locked to one proprietary application to make it work. The image to the left actually shows a jailbroken iPhone, so maybe that’s my next step.
While I definitely like it, and like what it can do, it just strengthened my resolve to purchase the Droid or similar Android OS phone next September when our AT&T contract runs out. At least then I can feel comfortable in knowing I posess something open and free. Seriously though, how has a suit not been filed against the iPod/iPhone for locking it to iTunes?
