Standing up to a bully is an age old thing of pride. Especially when so many others, when presented the chance, turn tail and go along with the bully. This week we saw iFlow, makers of a book app for Apple pull their app and issue some pretty harsh words. It seems they did not like how Apple either wanted them to pay more of their profits or not exist. Really, it seems some monopolistic behaviors at work, that hopefully, the powers to be will soon investigate.
Whereas others just agreed to Apple’s terms, iFlow pulled their app and issued some harsh words:
We put our faith in Apple and they screwed us…It was the American dream that we all strive for. Sadly, the America that we thought we were working in turned out to be a totalitarian regime and the dictator decided that he wanted all of what we had. Our dream is now over.
That pretty much gets to the root of the matter. Apple wanted even more for the ‘privilege’ to use their equipment. iFlow did not want to give a larger percentage for pretty much nothing. So they pulled their app. Good on them. That is what happens when we get brainwashed by the ‘flash’ of a technology without looking to see what lies underneath. That’s what you find in proprietary software. Hopefully we will see more app creators doing the same, and we will see some changes in how the big boys operate.
