Gosh, all the patent battles and lawsuits across the world these days. So frustrating, as they companies must spend time buying up patents (Google) to fight silly lawsuits (Apple, Microsoft) and really what it creates is lesser and lesser innovations. So now, a surprising story comes up. We know Apple has succeeded in banning the selling of some Samsung devices in Europe. They also are trying to block the selling of some Galaxy S devices here in the US. Verizon, yes, the company that just started selling iPhones, put out a brief stating that limiting these phones would cause them and the Country in general great loss. Good on them! Finally, someone sticking up to the playground bully, Apple! Even though they could possibly lose future Apple products, they are doing what is right for the people, and of course themselves too, as it is in their best interests to sell as many devices as they can. But this, hopefully, will plant some doubt into Apple’s mind and maybe Micro$oft’s as well, similar to how the RIAA found out that suing every mother or child would not increase sales. And that’s all we want, in society and education, are many options. We want to pick out the device that works in our home, in our classroom, or in our office. If consumers think the iPad fits that need, fine. But for many of us it does not, so we want options.
