So you want your students to enjoy writing and speaking? Can’t think of a way to make it entertaining for him though? Maybe you want to take a look at Songify. Songify, a semi-free app on the Google Play store (here), allows you or your students to record themselves reading pretty much anything. Then the magic starts–you ‘songify’ your speech. It starts with an auto-tune mix (think of all the rappers these days). Then they will allow you some other free genres. What I do not like is the few that are free. This app does try to get money (both real and from doing other tasks online–download this app, play this game, etc), which you cannot blame them, but for a free app, there should be more options.
I went ahead and did complete a couple tasks, went to eBay and Samsung, earned some coins, and was able to resongify to some other songs. That is fine, if using personally, but probably not good if using with students. You definitely would want to lock the purchasing down if using it as well.
An interesting thought for getting students engaged in their writing. I can definitely see those hesitant writings enjoying the opportunity to record their writing with this app. Not sure what benefit comes from it–definitely not a high level learning activity, but I can see some potential for motivation with students.
