The freedom fighters (I guess I consider myself one now), are up in arms recently about what they RIAA wants to use our FBI agents for. We talk so much about not overburdening our legal system, but sure enough, the recording and motion picture industries both want us to utilize border patrols and FBI agents to help them stop Copyright Infringement and piracy. This just gets my eyepatch and peg leg all worked up!
When will this foolishness stop? Seriously, soon the government will abandon national security to look at everyone’s hard drive for pirated content. Laugh, but consider what happened when the industries pressured Congress over higher education institutions. We know as well that they really want to push global Copyright laws everywhere, including those with the more modern and progressive laws.
Do we really want focus moved from national security? Should border patrol or customs agents really focus more scrutiny on a passenger for their possible Copyright infringement or their terrorist leanings? I think I know where the industries would say, but what do you, citizens say? Do you really want to give the airline security agent full access to your laptop? Your mp3 (or hopefully with my audience, OGG) players? And what if you do possess legal content, but cannot show a quick and accurate account of how you receive the content?
We hear the Right talk often about us moving in the direction of Socialism? I think our dictators in the RIAA and MPAA would like to move us there quicker. Scary, scary thought. If that falls, what will be next?
