Recently read a good article (click here) on how your Android phone can replace 100+ pounds of devices. You can definitely do that, and I wanted to share what I do with my EVO.
1. Flashlight. I got this app when upgrading my EVO to Froyo. At first I thought what a silly idea. Well, after making my way through some new construction at work, construction in a data closet with no lights, I changed my mind. It uses the LCD flash lights from the camera, and it is definitely pretty bright.
2. GPS. With the built in GPS, and two apps, Sprint Navigation and Google Navigation. I used a Garmin GPS for a number of years, but always had to keep up with it. With my EVO, I bought a car mount that suctions to the windshield. The maps are brand new, none of the ‘recalculating’ I used with the old GPS, and it ties in with Google. At least Google Nav does, which is a superior product compared to Sprint’s product.
3. Music Player/MP3. Yup, you can load music to your phone, I load it to the SD Card. I tried one of the exercise/beats per minute apps, which I am still working out, but you can play music through your phone, either songs you load or using something like Pandora. Which I use often.
4. Camera/Video Camera. 8 MP camera. Yeah, much better than my Canon, and much less bulky to carry around.
Lots of other uses too…but those are my top four. Look at that–you can probably save about 20 pounds right there. I just grab my phone, slide it in my belt pouch, and good to go!
